I love Yogurt in China. MENGNIU CEREAL YOGHURT BARLEY + ALOE is so good, though I usually just have plain because it's cheaper and has less sugar. Yoplait, Dannon etc. don't know the first thing about good yogurt. And yes, I know yogurt doesn't seem Chinese enough for me to be allowed to write about enjoying it in China. But though it is a new thing here, lots of people enjoy it. There is usually a grandmother purchasing yogurt when I am.

Is there that much open space near Beijing? The ad makes it look so "California"...most westernized!
ReplyDeleteTell me more about the liver and intestine soup. Chinese cooking doesn't waste a thing.
Jeff
Maybe near Beijing, but certainly not in it. I haven't seen the color green since I've been here, except of course on signs and festive packaging. Never-ending high-rises and multi-lane highways. Three hyphens.
ReplyDeleteLiver and Intestine Soup: it was a comfort food gravy glop, thick and brown with small intestine chunks and liver slices. A breakfast food. The intestine pieces sort of blended in with the glop and weren't noticeable. But the liver slices were tasty surprises.
Yup...like they say in Clayton County - "ain't nothin' like a bowlful of organs in gravy!"
ReplyDeleteCletus says "Hey".
I am happy to see that you are enjoying a varied diet. The dairy poster looks like a modern version of my Mao era "children with corn". Is it now the fashion to look western?
ReplyDeleteThere's never really a difference between advertisements and propaganda. And I don't know mother, depends how you define western.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jeff, I don't know your email but I'd like you to interview a man from Highlandville who wrote a description for a MOBA art piece. So please give me your email so that I can forward the email to you. And whether or not you want to do the interview you will at least enjoy MOBA.
